The NBA postseason has been filled to the brink with upsets and historic performances. The conference semi-finals ended, and we are now left with 4 teams still in the fight for the 2023 Larry O'Brien NBA Championship Trophy. Below we provide a detailed overview of the 2 conference finals.
Los Angeles Lakers vs Denver Nuggets
The Lakers and Nuggets both progressed through the conference semi-finals after beating the Warriors and Suns respectively. They have already played 2 games so far in the series, the Nuggets have won both and taken a 2-0 lead. Nikola Jokic continues to make history and Jamal Murray is in blistering form. Despite their hot start they now have to travel to Los Angeles for the next 2 games. I think the series could be very close, but that's dependent on these next 2 games. If the Lakers don't win both, I don't see a way in which they can come back and beat this dominant Nuggets team. But when you have Lebron James on your team you never truly know what can happen, so I wouldn't say the series is over yet but these next 2 games will be crucial for the Lakers.
Miami Heat vs Boston Celtics
The Miami Heat have not stopped exceeding expectations, ESPN gave the Heat a 3% chance of winning this series, and while we still don't know what's going to happen, we've seen Jimmy Butler and the Heat take a 2-0 lead after winning away from home twice in a row. In both games we saw Miami make a comeback, in the first game, they were down by as much as 13 before scoring an astonishing 46 points in the 3rd quarter alone. In the second game, they were down by 12 with 10 minutes left. Boston seemed in control and they were set to even up the series, that was before Grant Williams hit a three and then trash-talked to Jimmy Butler. Butler responded and went berserk, and in the process, he got his team over the line, Miami won the game by 5 points. I think despite Boston's star-studded team and their impressive regular season, they won't be able to come back from this deficit. The Heat are a very well-drilled team, everyone in that roster knows their role and they execute it very well. If Boston does hope to avoid playoff disappointment yet again, they'll need to even the series up in these next two games in Miami.
